The event was led by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Pampanga Chapter in cooperation with various government agencies like the Department of the Interior and Local Government, community and provincial offices of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Municipal Government of Mexico, Mexico Community Hospital and the Barangay Council of San Juan.
The activity is part of the KBP national program in support of the government’s National Greening Program embodied in Executive Order No. 28.
Members and officers of the Rotary Club of Southern Pampanga also participated in planting some 2,300 seedlings of mahogany to strengthen the riverbank which is threatened by erosion due to the strong current of the Abacan River.
Private firms San Miguel Brewery-San Fernando Plant and water-refilling station, Sparklets Alkaline Water also provided refreshment for the participants. Mexico Mayor Teddy C. Tumang likewise provided breakfast for the delegates.
KBP Chapter president Fernando “Perry” Pangan of DWRW 95.1 FM also thanked the management of CLTV 36, a regional television station in Central Luzon, for sending staff and crew to join the tree-planting activity.
Pangan was accompanied by DENR-Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) Rommel Santiago and provincial environment officer (PENRO) Leo Ignacio, Barangay Chairman Leonardo “Boy” Sinamban and barangay officials of San Juan.
Through this activity we would like to emphasize that the media is not contented with just reporting the goings-on in the community but wants to be directly involved especially in significant movements like the preservation of our environment, Pangan said.
